17 dead, about 400 injured in warehouse blast in Tianjin
August 12, 2015
BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Yonhap) — Huge explosions have ripped through an industrial area in China’s northeast port city of Tianjin, killing 17 people and injuring more than 400, state-run media reported Thursday.
China Central Television (CCTV) said the incident involved a shipment of explosives at the Ruihai warehouse in Tianjin, and happened around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for “all-out efforts to rescue victims and extinguish the fire,” CCTV reported.
Two South Korean nationals were among the injured, according to the South Korean Embassy in Beijing.
An embassy official said the two Koreans suffered minor injuries and were treated at a hospital in Tianjin.
