2NE1′s CL leads poll for TIME’s 100 Most Influential People list
CL, a member of K-pop girl group 2NE1, is a candidate for TIME Magazine’s annual 100 Most Influential People list.
The inclusion makes the 24-year-old pop star, who is looking to break into the U.S. market, the third Korean entertainer up for votes after Rain and Psy in previous years.
“One fourth of the wildly popular South Korean girl group 2NE1, Lee Chaelin (a.k.a. CL) is teaming up with manager Scooter Braun (the mastermind behind Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen) for her upcoming American debut,” the magazine wrote.
In a show of the power of K-pop, CL is leading the poll at No. 1 with 11.6 percent of votes as of Thursday, trailed by Lady Gaga with 4.2 percent.
Other candidates include Beyonce, Emma Watson, Barack Obama, Taylor Swift, Pope Francis and the Dalai Lama.
TIME’s online poll will close April 10, and the chosen list of 100 will be revealed April 16.
