2NE1′s CL to debut in U.S. next spring
SEOUL (Yonhap) — CL, a member of popular girl group 2NE1, will debut in the U.S. early next year in partnership with rapper Psy’s American manager Scooter Braun, her management said Thursday.
“CL is scheduled to release her debut single in the United States next spring,” YG Entertainment said. “She will be managed by Scooter Braun, who helped Psy grow into a global star.”
Braun noted CL’s high market potential with her rapping skills and vocals as well as English ability, according to sources.
Her band 2NE1 is popular among K-pop fans in the U.S., with its second full-length album “Crush” setting a new record as the highest-charting K-pop album in the country in March, ranking 61st on the Billboard Albums’ chart.
Most recently, CL, whose original Korean name is Lee Chae-rin, appeared in the music video of Psy’s “Hangover” featuring American hip-hop star Snoop Dogg.
“She is now working on her new single,” a YG official said. “We’ll announce exact schedules for the album’s release as soon as they are fixed.”
