4,000 attend the 6th Korea Times College Expo
About 4,000 college-bound students and parents crowded Sa-Rang Community Church Saturday in Anaheim, California, for the 6th Korea Times College Expo.
Information booths, lectures and an analysis of the new SAT through practice test review were main draws.
Seminars by experts — among them Robert Jackson, former Yale University associate director of undergraduate admissions, and Benjamin Kwak, former UCLA assistant director of undergraduate admissions — on topics including choosing a major, internships and volunteering, a master plan for college admission, mentoring and entering the Ivy League filled the afternoon.
Lim Jung-yoon, 48, came out with her ninth-grade son.
“We’ve looked up information about college admissions online, but to actually speak with representatives and have our questions answered was really helpful,” she said.
Matthew Choi, a tenth-grader, said he plans to take home the information gathered from the event to form a new plan for getting into college.
Representatives from 40 institutions, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Brown, the University of Chicago, Northwestern and the University of California system, were on hand at booths to answer questions and give advice.
The event was organized by the Korea Times, Radio Seoul and Elite Educational Institute.
