4th Annual Hiring Fair tips for LA job seekers
March 24, 2015
With the 4th Annual Hiring Fair on its way to the LA Convention Center on March 27, job seekers should take the time to prepare themselves to increase the chances of getting hired.
“What to Wear”
- Business suit in a conservative color (navy, gray, or black are preferred)
- For men: dress shirt and tie
- For women: neckline no lower than collarbone; skirt hem should be no more than two inches above the knee
- Clothes clean and pressed
- Shoes: for men—wing tips or loafers with dark socks; for women—low/medium heels or flats. Be comfortable, you will be standing in line!
“What to Bring”
- Copies of your resume
- Your elevator pitch (30-60 second explanation as to why you’d be a good fit for a particular position)
“Be Prepared”
- Make a list of organizations that you’re interested in and research them. Visit their web sites, learn the latest news on them, prepare questions about them and take note of what positions they are looking to fill. Your preparation will become evident in your interaction with company representatives and you’ll stand out from the pack.
- Take the event seriously. This is your moment to impress the recruiter or representative. First impressions are important.
- Be confident in your presentation.
- Be prepared with your questions.
- Be respectful, courteous and network! You never know who might be able to help you land your next job.
“Follow up!”
- Be sure to contact the recruiter after the event and say things like it was a pleasure to meet you! Write a nice formal email.
