65-year old Korean man dies in LA Koreatown apartment fire
By The Korea Times Los Angeles staff
Arson investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire that killed one Korean American man and injured another in a Koreatown apartment.
The blaze at the three-story apartment building at 433 S. Hobart Blvd. was reported at 8:54 p.m. Wednesday, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. One person died and another was treated at the scene, she said.
The body was found in the fire-stricken unit after firefighters knocked down the flames, Stewart said. An autopsy was pending.
According to other tenants at the apartment, the victim is a 65-year-old Korean American man with a surname Kim.
Out of the total 45 units at this apartment, 25 units are reportedly occupied by Korean Americans.
The fire was contained in just one apartment, with 43 firefighters putting it out in 16 minutes, Stewart said, adding that arson investigators were called to the scene to determine what sparked the blaze.
