USC says 2014 entering class is most accomplished it has ever seen

Accepted about 18 percent of 51,800 applicants

(CNS) – About 18 percent of the 51,800 high school seniors who applied to USC were admitted, and among the 9,225 who got in, 26 percent were of Asian descent, 12 percent Latino, 7 percent black and 2 percent Native American, the school announced today.

Timothy Brunold, dean of admissions, called those admitted the largest and most interesting group of students ever.

The freshman applicants were from all 50 states and 80 other countries – all competing for 2,750 openings in the fall class.

“In fact, USC’s fall 2014 entering class represents the most accomplished group of first-year students our university has ever seen,” he said.

About 75 percent of the incoming first-year students had standardized test scores at or above the 95 percentile.

About two-thirds of undergraduates receive some form of financial aid, and about 24 percent of students admitted last year were eligible for Pell Grants, according to USC.
