California online voter registration will offer Korean

Online voter registration will be available in Korean for California residents come June 3.

Eight languages — Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Hindi, Tagalog, Khmer, Thai — will be added to the online voter registration system, the California Secretary of State said in an announcement Monday.

The only languages previously in the system were English and Spanish.

Online registration, which was first launched for the 2012 presidential election, has gained popularity for its convenience.

According to the Secretary of State, 72 percent of caucasian voters and 69 percent of black voters chose to register online in 2012. Only 58 percent of Asian voters used the new system.
