Two shows starring Asian Americans coming to ABC

“Selfie” and “Fresh off the Boat” generate excitement

Two new American television shows starring Asian Americans are generating excitement on the Internet.

The shows ― “Fresh off the Boat” and “Selfie” ― are part of ABC’s fall schedule, which the network announced earlier this week.

Selfie stars John Cho, the Korean American actor known for his roles in the “Harold and Kumar” comedy films as well as last year’s “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

Cho plays Henry, a marketing expert who decides to “re-market” his coworker Eliza, a social media star who “realizes being friended is not the same as having actual friends.”

“Fresh Off the Boat,” picked up by the network earlier this week, stars 10-year-old Hudson Yang, the son of noted Asian American writer Jeff Yang.

The show focuses on an immigrant family which faces culture shock when they move from Washington, D.C. to suburban Orlando. Korean American comedian Randall Park appears as the father of the hip-hop loving Eddie.
