California cities lead nation in car theft
June 27, 2014
Nine out of 10 cities in the United States with the most vehicle thefts are in California, according to a National Insurance Crime Bureau report Thursday.
In the ranking of hotspots for the most average thefts in 2013, Bakersfield was No. 1, with a rate of 725.24 thefts out of 100,000.
Bakersfield was followed by Fresno, Modesto, San Francisco, Stockton-Lodi and Redding.
Only Spokane, Wash., No. 7 on the list, was a non-Californian city.
Vallejo, San Jose and Yuba City rounded out the hotspots list.
According to the NICB, 176,745 cars were stolen in California last year, the highest of any state.
