Number of Korean organizations in the U.S. rises to 1,123

As the Korean population continues to rise in the United States, so has the number of Korean organizations, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Monday.

According to the ministry’s report, there are 1,123 Korean organizations across the U.S. as of July, 123 more than that reported in 2010.

In particular, organizations that fell under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles Korean Consulate General numbered 279, the most of any other region in the country. The same region includes Koreatown, which hosts the world’s largest population of Koreans outside of Korea.

Korean organizations in the L.A. region saw a 22.9 percent increase since 2010, when organizations numbered 227, the report said.

The Chicago Consulate General came in second, followed by the New York/New Jersey area with 178 — a decrease of 60 organizations since 2012 — and Washington D.C. with 172.

Areas like San Francisco, Seattle and Honolulu saw falls in numbers of organizations since 2010 as well.

The ministry’s annual report found a total of 3,148 Korean organizations around the globe this year.
