An emergency is an emergency: L.A. residents dial 911 after Facebook outage
August 5, 2014
Los Angeles County residents reportedly called police last week when Facebook went down for a few hours.
“#Facebook is not a law enforcement issue,” tweeted @LASDBrink, known as Sergeant Burton Brink, on Friday morning. “Please don’t call us about it being down, we don’t know when FB will be back up.”
The Sheriff’s Department website lists Brink as its community relations sergeant.
It is not the first time people have called police to complain about domestic issues. Last summer, residents of a Connecticut town called 911 when a cable outage interrupted the popular TV show “Breaking Bad.”
The LAPD estimates that 70 percent of 911 calls this year have been non-emergency calls.
