LACMA to hold special events through last 3 weeks of Korean art exhibit

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art will hold special events through the last three weeks of its Korean art exhibit, “Treasures From Korea: Arts and Culture of the Joseon Dynasty, 1392-1910,” which ends Sept. 28.

Cur-ATE: Ancient and Modern Korean 

Enjoy a tour of the exhibition with chef and teacher Maite Gomez-Rejon before sitting down for a dinner by chef Viet Pham at Ray’s & Stark Bar. The bar will offer three varieties of “soju cocktails” throughout the month of September.

September 9, 6:30 p.m. $90 for LACMA members, $100 for non-members. Includes tour, dinner, parking.

Korean Scholar’s Day

Lectures by Korean art scholars will run all day inside the museum’s Brown Auditorium, among them by professors Cho In-soo (Korea National University of Arts), Hwang Kyung-moon (USC), Burglind Jungmann (UCLA) and Kim Sung-rim (Dartmouth).

September 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission.

Korean Arts Day

A series of free events highlighting Korean arts and culture will unfold the day before the end of the exhibition, made possible with the support of the Korea Foundation.

Events include: A lecture titled “Symbolism and Functions of Korean Palace Screen Paintings,” held inside Brown Auditorium at 11 a.m. and headed by Academy of Korean Studies professor Lee Song-mi; a concert by the Ahn Sook Sun Ensemble inside Bing Theater at 1 p.m.; a Korean tea ceremony from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the L.A. Times Central Court; an unveiling of a community bojagi showcasing pieces from 1,700 participants, as well as a brush painting workshop, inside the Boone Children’s Gallery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
