The U.S. Postal Service may deliver groceries beginning late October
By The Korea Times Los Angeles staff
The U.S. Postal Service may be entering the beginning stages of a local grocery delivery service across the nation.
It made a proposal to the Postal Regulatory Commission on Tuesday with the hopes of finding an alternate revenue stream with billion dollar losses reported year after year – a figure that is publicly available on their own website.
So far, USPS has not announced the details around the potential operation including pricing or potential retailers and vendors.
It won’t be going into this venture blind though.
Trial runs in San Francisco have shown that there is a demand for the service. In delivering groceries for Amazon.com, USPS found that customers request 160 deliveries per day in 38 different zip codes according to the proposal.
If the panel approves the project, grocery deliveries will begin on Oct. 24.
