Oregon beats Georgetown 82-75  in first ever U.S. college basketball game played in Korea

Oregon defeated Georgetown in a college basketball season opener played at a U.S. army base Saturday morning in South Korea.

The game, labeled the 2013 Armed Forces Classic, was part of ESPN’s Veteran’s Week special to honor the men and women of the U.S. military, and the stands were packed almost exclusively with soldiers.

The 19th ranked Ducks, at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, outlasted the unranked Hoyas, 82-75, thanks to perfect free throw shooting by Joseph Young (12-12) and Jason Calliste (11-11).

The teams played in special camouflage uniforms – light-colored camouflage for Oregon, and dark for Georgetown. Instead of names on the back of their jerseys, Oregon had “USA”; Georgetown had words like “Integrity,” ‘’Courage” and “Respect.”

Coaches also wore combat boots and military-style cargo pants.
