Stacy Lewis vs. 7 Koreans
‘LPGA Korea’ in great position to win seventh title in eight tournaments
By The Korea Times Los Angeles staff
Seven South Korean female golfers are within the top six positions after the first round of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia tournament held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
So far, South Korean golfers have won the last six of seven LPGA events.
Choi Na-yeon, Eun Hee-ji, Park Hee-young and Ryu So-yeon are all tied for second after a first round 5-under 66.
Lee Mi-hyang, Jenny Shin and Amy Yang are tied for sixth after shooting a 4-under 67.
South Korean female golfers have been dominating but they are still trailing the top ranked player in the world this week.
Stacy Lewis of the U.S., is currently at the top of the leader board with a 6-under 65 after her first day.
Lewis birdied the par-5 17th to break away from the quartet of South Korean golfers at 5-under.
She’ll have to fend off a slew of strong golfers to maintain her lead throughout the weekend.
