Two South Korean films invited to Chicago film festival
The 50th Chicago International Film Festival invited two Korean films this year.
“A Dream of Iron,” directed by Park Kyung-geun, will show in the Docufest category, while Jung Joo-ri’s “A Girl At My Door” was chosen to screen as a part of the New Directors, Out-Look and ReelWomen categories, CIFF said.
The festival will run Thursday to Oct. 23. Of the 4,500 projects submitted to the festival, 200 were chosen for screening, according to Yonhap.
CIFF introduces “A Dream of Iron” as the winner of a special prize at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival.
“[It] fulfills the poetic, personal and historical potential of the documentary form,” the film’s description on CIFF’s website reads.
The festival praised “A Girl At My Door” for “electrifying performances” by the two leading actresses, Bae Doo-na and Kim Sae-ron.
CIFF, the oldest North American film festival, was started in 1965 and invites 150 to 200 projects each year to show in 14 categories.
“A Dream of Iron” will show at 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 21 and 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 22. “A Girl At My Door” will show at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 15, 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 12 p.m. on Oct. 20.
