Anthony Bourdain visits Korea to film ‘Parts Unknown’

American chef Anthony Bourdain visited Korea last week to film an upcoming episode of his popular food show “Parts Unknown,” the blog Food Republic has reported.

On Thursday, Bourdain, 58, took to Instagram and uploaded a photograph of street vendors at Gwangjang Market in Seoul, announcing his presence in Korea. The next day, he shared a picture of “budae jjigae” ­ㅡ or military base stew ㅡ ­ with the tag, “In case you were feeling nostalgic for the Korean War.”

Food Republic’s Matt Rodbard wrote that Bourdain was in town to film an episode of the award-winning CNN show. Rodbard added that the New York-based producers of the show, Zero Point Zero Production, own Food Republic.

Bourdain is no stranger to Korea: he visited for a 2006 episode of his previous show, “No Reservations.”

“It’s like a pinball game of flashing neon, sign written in a script that I don’t understand,” he said of Seoul on No Reservations.

Season 4 of Parts Unknown is set to wrap up around the end of next month, with upcoming shows including Tanzania, Jamaica, Massachusetts and Iran.

The episode featuring Seoul is “likely to air sometime in 2015,” Food Republic reported.

“While we certainly don’t want to spoil the show…I think the themes covered will change the way you think of Korean food and culture,” Rodbard wrote.
