Seven celebrities indicted on gambling charges

The prosecution said Thursday that it indicted seven celebrities suspected of betting hundreds of millions won on illegal online gambling sites.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office said that they are comedians Lee Soo-geun, Yang Se-hyung, Kong Ki-tak; singers Tony An and Andy; and entertainers Tak Jae-hoon and Boom.

Investigators said that they bet from tens of millions won to a few billion won on English Premier League games using illegal online gambling sites. The prosecution said that they often bet on games in which Park Ji-sung was playing.

Among them, Kong spent the most money, betting 1.8 billion won between January 2008 and March 2011. An bet 400 million won, while Lee and Tak bet 370 million won and 290 million won, respectively.

Andy, whose real name is Lee Seon-ho, and Boom, who is Lee Min-ho, bet 44 million won and 33 million respectively. Yang bet 26 million won, according to the prosecution. Most of the celebrities confessed to the charges, investigators said.
