Big Bang most popular S. Korean performer in Japan this year

SEOUL (Yonhap) — Boy band Big Bang drew the largest number of concert-goers in Japan among South Korean performers this year, a Japanese entertainment magazine said Friday.

Big Bang ranked second, the highest ranking for Koreans, in the top 50 list of most-attended pop musical concerts held in Japan this year, released by the country’s monthly Nikkei Entertainment Magazine in a December edition.

The group has held a total of 29 concerts so far this year across Japan, drawing about 927,000 fans, the magazine said.

Japanese boy band Exile topped the list, recording 1,053,000 in attendance while Japanese idol band Arashi was at No. 3 with 894,000.

“Big Bang proved its mighty ticket power and status in competition against top Japanese singers,” the group’s management agency YG Entertainment said.

The band is set to begin a concert tour of five Japanese cities in Nagoya on Nov. 15-16. It will perform 15 times before approximately 741,000 fans during the concerts, according to the agency.
