Tiger Woods shows flashes of past, Spieth leads

Tiger Woods showed flashes of brilliance on Friday during the second round of the Hero World Challenge in Windermere, Fla.

But that’s all they were. Flashes.

After starting the day in last place at 6-over, Woods steadied the ship while shooting even through 12 holes.

On the par-5 13th, Woods hit his second shot to four feet and drained his eagle putt with a skip in his step. This move would spark his following birdie-par-birdie run.

At that point he had dug himself out of last place, but inclement weather would stop play on the course just before he was about to tee off on the par-4 18th.

After an hour-long delay, Woods hit a perfect tee shot that split the fairway, which was then followed by an unexpected pulled approach shot that flew left of the green.

Woods flubbed another chip similar to what he had done three times during the first round, lipped out his bogey putt and walked off the course in last place once again after a second round 2-under 70.

“It wasn’t a whole lot different,” Woods told reporters after the round. “I hit maybe two less worse shots than yesterday.”

Patrick Reed, Woods’ playing partner, shot the day’s lowest score with a 9-under 63 putting him tied-for-third and 3 strokes off the leader Jordan Spieth.

Spieth is at 11-under overall, but has technically not finished his second round because he has yet to finish the 18th hole due to a rain delay.

Both Spieth and Steve Stricker will finish up their second rounds on Saturday.
