LA city council candidate Ryu urges Korean Americans to register to vote

David Ryu, 39, a District 4 candidate for the Los Angeles City Council’s March 3 election, wants Korean Americans to vote.

There are about 13,000 Korean Americans who are U.S. citizens in District 4, but only about 6,000 are registered voters, Ryu said in a press conference announcing the launch of a voting registration campaign Monday.

The district is home to the second-highest number of voting-eligible Koreans in Los Angeles, he said.

Ryu said the campaign goal is to get 2,000 more voters to register.

His camp joined hands with The Korea Times for the effort and said a voter registration booth has been set up inside the publication’s offices.

People can also register at Ryu’s campaign offices at 521 N. Wilton Pl. or online at registertovote.ca.gov.

He said voting allows Korean Americans to rise in politics.

Ryu looks to replace Councilman Tom LaBonge’s termed-out seat come March.
