NY teen goes missing after argument with parents

A 16-year-old Korean female from Edgemont, N.Y. has gone missing since 8 p.m. on Jan. 2.

Ji-woo Kang, also identified as Christine Kang, was seen boarding a Metro-North train departing from Scarsdale according to surveillance footage analyzed by local authorities.

Greenburgh police have confirmed that she got off in Manhattan around 11 p.m. the same evening.

She had been arguing with her parents and left the house without a coat or cellphone into below-freezing temperatures.

Police described Kang as approximately 5 feet, 6 inches and 120 pounds with long black hair. She was last seen wearing a mint green flannel top, white flannel pants with a snowflake pattern and a pair of Ugg boots.

“There’s been a history where the young lady has left the residence under similar circumstances but has always returned home,” Police Capt. Brian Ryan told reporters.

Authorities are currently performing a forensic investigation on the teen’s phone and laptop to see if they can gather any clues on her whereabouts.

Greenburgh police Lt. Michael D’Alessio stated that there has been “an outpouring of community support” from both local and Korean communities.
