More and more NY Korean Americans are finding jobs in South Korea
By The Korea Times New York staff
An increasing number of second-generation Korean Americans living in New York are finding jobs in South Korea.
According to data released by New York Korean Consulate General Tuesday, 1,127 New Yorkers — a majority of them Korean American — were issued working visas in 2014, a 3 percent increase from 2013.
Temporary employment visas (C-4) were most in number, at 720, followed by 392 for the E-2, which are issued to those who wish to teach English in Korea.
The increase is credited to both a still-recovering job economy stateside and the ever-increasing popularity of Hallyu, which has had a powerful effect on drawing foreigners to South Korea.
In addition, South Korean companies have begun recruiting campaigns that offer Korean Americans generous incentives, from housing to providing living expenses.
