Jang Geun-suk to leave upcoming TV variety following tax evasion controversy
South Korean actor Jang Geun-suk, 28, suffering a tax evasion controversy this week, will leave the cast of the upcoming tvN television variety show “Three Meals a Day,” according to EDaily Star Thursday.
A source said the decision, which comes a day before the show was due to air, was made together by Tree J Company, Jang’s agency, and show producers.
Show production company CJ E&M said Thursday said they were aware of viewers’ concerns about Jang’s recent tax evasion scandal. Producers determined Jang’s appearance on the show at this point in time is inappropriate and, after a discussion with his agency, made the decision, CJ said.
“Three Meals a Day,” originally slated to air Friday in Korea, has been pushed back to Jan. 23 to allow editing of already-filmed scenes in which Jang appears.
Jang and his agency, Tree J Company, were involved in an investigation by the Seoul Regional Tax Office last year concerning tax evasion of money made from the actor’s overseas activities.
