Lunar New Year gathers diverse group to celebrate Korean culture in SF
San Francisco Korean language students celebrated Lunar New Year Saturday at Sunnyvale’s Dae Sung Korean Presbyterian Church.
Held by the Korean Language and Culture Foundation, the event welcomed a diverse group that included Milpitas Mayor Jose Esteves and San Francisco Korean Deputy Consul General Lee Sang-ryul.
Foundation Chairperson Koo Eun-hee said she found it meaningful to celebrate Lunar New Year with Koreans and non-Koreans alike in America.
“I hope today was an opportunity for everyone to experience Korean culture by eating rice cake soup and wearing hanbok,” Koo said.
Estevez thanked the foundation for providing a cultural experience for California residents.
The event saw an ensemble from Adroit College, a Korean language school, singing songs in Korean, as well as a dance performance and a feast comprised of rice cake soup and bulgogi japchae.
