According to the latest Gallup Korea survey
Ever wonder which celebrities are most beloved in South Korea?
Gallup Korea has an answer — its latest poll, conducted in October last year, asked 1,700 Koreans over the age of 13 about their favorite singers, comedians, TV stars and movie stars, according to Yonhap.
Favorite singer? Cho Yong-pil. Comedian? Yoo Jae-suk. TV star? Kim Soo-hyun. Movie star? Choi Min-sik.
In free-answer polls, rankings for favorite singer had Lee Sun-hee trailing the King of Korean Pop’s 7.2 percent with 4.4.
Trot darling Jang Yoon-jung (3.9) followed, trailed by IU (3.6), Tae Jin-ah (3.3), EXO (2.9), Lee Seung-chul (2.8), Lee Mi-ja (2.8), Na Hoon-ah (2.5) and Girls’ Generation (2.1).
As for television stars, Kim Soo-hyun — who topped the list with 4.3 percent of responses — was the only actor with less than 10 years of experience under his belt.
Choi Bool-am (4.2) was second, followed by Jo In-sung (3.3), Kim Tae-hee (3.1), Go Du-shim (2.6), Lee Soon-jae (2.5), Kim Hye-ja (2.4), Kim Hee-ae (2.4), Lee Yoo-ri (2.2), Yoo Dong-geun (2.1) and Hyunbin (2.1).
In the movie star category, Jeon Ji-hyun (at fifth place, with 3.6 percent) was the only female on the list.
Choi Min-sik (7.5) was followed by Song Kang-ho (6.9), Ahn Sung-ki (6.5), Ha Jung-woo (3.7), Jeon, Ryu Seung-ryong (3.3), Jang Dong-gun (3.2), Seol Kyung-ku (3.1), Wonbin (2.7) and Jung Woo-sung (2.7).
When it came to comedians, Yoo Jae-suk was a clear favorite. His name was chosen in a whopping 23 percent of free responses.
Yoo, a household name unlike any other in Korea, has to date won 12 grand prizes for best comedian.
Kim Joon-ho came second with 9 percent, followed by Kang Ho-dong (6), Kim Joon-hyun (6), Lee Guk-ju (4), Lee Kyung-kyu (2.7), Shin Dong-yup (2.5), Park Myung-soo (2), Kim Ji-min (1.9), Kim Ki-ri (1.8) and Shin Bo-ra (1.8).
