Soo Joo Park chosen as first Asian American model for L’Oréal Paris
By Christine Ha
L’Oréal Paris has found its first-ever Asian American model in Soo Joo Park.
As the first Asian American chosen in 106 years, 29-year-old Park will grace the makeup giant’s campaign.
Seoul-born and Anaheim-raised, Park studied architecture at the University of California, Berkeley, before rising to stardom as one of fashion’s hottest new names despite her late entrance into the industry at age 26.
“I’m Asian, but I’m also Asian American,” Park told Style.com. “It’s such an honor, but I also think the world is getting smaller and the globalization of commerce is influencing industries like beauty and fashion. So to be the first to represent a global brand is a huge honor. But I don’t want to be just that one thing; I want to be the global ambassador.”
Chanel, Moschino, Fendi, Lanvin and Rodarte are among the fashion houses that have become enamored by her blonde hair and androgynous style on the runway, while her campaigns include Chanel, DKNY and Redken.
