EXO records biggest sales week ever for K-pop act in the US: Billboard
By Tae Hong
Don’t call them baby, call them monsters — K-pop supergroup EXO sung and danced their way to recording the largest sales week ever for a Korean act in the United States, according to Billboard.
Their second album, “Exodus,” ranked No. 95 on the Billboard 200 and No. 70 on its Top Album Sales chart by selling 6,000 copies here in the first week of April.
“Now, EXO can claim the biggest sales week for a K-pop [act] ever, but also the highest-charting album for male groups,” Billboard said.
The group beat out 2NE1′s “Crush” album, and also themselves, for the record — their latest EP, “Overdose,” landed No. 129 on the same chart last year.
“Exodus” was released at the beginning of April to both worldwide iTunes success and to domestic No. 1s.
EXO broke a 12-year record in 2013 for one million album sales with their first effort, “XOXO.” “Exodus” looks set to do the same, having sold 500,000 copies in pre-order sales alone last week.
