Stanford to bring former S. Korean assembly speaker for lecture

South Korea’s former Speaker of the Assembly Kim Hyung-o will visit Stanford University next month as a special guest speaker to discuss the next South Korean presidential election.

Kim is scheduled to speak May 6 as a part of the school’s Asian Pacific Research Center’s Koret Distinguished Lecture Series.

“The 19th presidential election may prove to be the most important in Korea’s history,” the event description reads. “[Kim] … will analyze the outlook for the 2017 presidential election and recommend ways of dealing with the weighty issues it entails.”

Kim, who completed five terms in Korea’s National Assembly and who now acts as advisor to the Saenuri Party, currently teaches social sciences at Pusan National University.
