South Korean figure skater Kim Yuna cruised to an overwhelming victory in her highly-anticipated return to competition in Croatia on Saturday, despite committing an early mistake in her free skating program.
Kim received 131.12 points in Saturday’s free skate for a total of 204.49 points to capture first place at the Golden Spin of Zagreb competition at Dom Sportova arena in the Croatian capital. On Friday, she earned 73.37 points in the short program, the highest short program score by anyone this season.
In Japan, Kim’s most formidable adversary Mao Asada won the Grand Prix Final on Saturday despite failing to land two triple axels early in her free program. She finished with 204.02 points.
Julia Lipnitskaia of Russia was second with 192.07 points, followed by Ashley Wagner of the United States with 187.61.
