ABC renews ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ for 2nd season
By Brian Han
Although producer Eddie Huang might be less than content with the direction of ABC’s “Fresh Off The Boat,” the network felt differently and decided to renew the sitcom for a second season according to Hollywood Reporter Thursday night.
The show experienced a significant upswing in viewership for its season finale and received support from its fans through social media.
An average of 5.75 million viewers tuned in to watch the show throughout its initial run with a high of 7.94 million when the pilot debuted in February according to Nielsen Media Research.
“Fresh Off The Boat” exceeded expectations in the Tuesday night time slot, which has typically been a place where ABC has seen many shows perish.
The sitcom marks the first prime time network television show to star an Asian American family since 1994 when Margaret Cho led the cast in “All-American Girl” which was not well-received by audiences and critics alike leading to a cancellation after a single season.
