Ryu Hyun-Jin likely to have season-ending shoulder surgery
By Brian Han
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin has elected to undergo a season ending shoulder surgery after experiencing recurring injuries in the area according to a Naver Sports report.
The lefty experienced a setback in his rehab two weeks ago when he stayed back in Los Angeles after Manager Don Mattingly had planned to take him on the road with the rest of the team to Milwaukee where he was supposed to continue bullpen sessions.
Ryu would have been the third starter in an impressive starting rotation behind 2014 NL Cy Young winner and MVP Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.
Since joining the Dodgers in 2013, Ryu earned his spot with a career 3.17 ERA and 293/78 K/BB ratio in 344 innings of work in the major leagues.
Despite losing both Ryu and starter Brandon McCarthy to injuries, the team has managed to keep up the second best record in the league at 24-13.
