Zero tolerance: Dodgers leave SF with no runs in 3-games for 2nd time in 3 years
By Brian Han
The San Francisco Giants (23-18) are an enigma that the Los Angeles Dodgers (24-16) just can’t figure out.
The Dodgers’ 4-0 loss on Thursday at AT&T Stadium in San Francisco capped off a four-game scoreless losing streak, three of which came painfully from their longtime division rival Giants.
Although the outcome of the three-game series sounds like a statistic that happens once every blue moon, it turns out that the last time the Giants did this was back in June of 2012.
With the clubs’ aces squaring off in Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw, fans expected a pitcher’s duel of the highest caliber.
What no one expected was for Madison Bumgarner to accomplish something no other pitcher had done before to Clayton Kershaw — hit a home run.
The solo shot came in the bottom of the third to break up the 0-0 deadlock.
This wasn’t a fly ball that barely cleared the wall.
It was hit hard and the roars from within the stadium swelled as soon as contact was made.
The Giants racked up nine hits during the game and the Dodgers matched that total, but left 20 batters on base compared to their opponent’s 11.
So far this season, the Dodgers are 2-7 against the Giants.
The two teams will meet again for another three-game series from June 19-21 at Dodger Stadium.
