The Korea Times LA celebrates 46th anniversary

The Korea Times celebrates its 46th anniversary today.

After its beginning in 1969 as the burgeoning Los Angeles Korean American community’s first Korean-language newspaper, the Times expanded to bureaus across North America, spanning New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Seattle, Philadelphia, Hawaii, Chicago, Atlanta, Vancouver and Toronto.

In Los Angeles, the publication has overseen a series of long-beloved events for a community that boasts the largest Korean population outside Korea, from the Korea Times Music Festival in the Hollywood Bowl to the Korean Parade that crowns the city’s annual Korean Festival.

This year, a new tradition, the walking Turtle Marathon at Griffith Park, was introduced to promote a healthier community.

“The Korea Times, with its long tradition, has grown alongside the Korean American community,” Consul General Kim Hyun-myung said in a congratulatory message.

“I hope for the Times to continue shining a light on darkness as a voice of reason for the Korean community,” said James Ahn, president of the Korean American Federation.
