Psy strikes year-end bonanza
By Park Si-soo
Psy’s “Gentleman” was named YouTube’s top trending music video of 2013, sharing the coveted title with Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop,” Katy Perry’s “Roar” and P!nk’s “Just Give Me a Reason.”
The news came only days after the music video topped TIME’s list of the “Top 10 Viral Videos of the Year.” The magazine said, “Psy proved he wasn’t a one-trick pony when ‘Gentleman’ broke all kinds of records right out of the gate, becoming the most viewed video online in a single day.”
Psy’s “Gentleman” drew 595.65 million hits on YouTube as of Dec. 5, and his global mega-hit, “Gangnam Style,” is the most watched video on YouTube, with over 1.8 billion views.
Psy sweeps Billboard
Psy topped six categories of the U.S. Billboard magazine’s year-end charts for 2013, his local management company said Wednesday.
Psy, who rose to global stardom for “Gangnam Style” featuring his horse-riding dance in 2012, was chosen as the top “Dance/Electronic Streaming Song Artist,” “Rap Streaming Song Artist” and “World Digital Song Artist” of 2013 in the year-end charts to be included in the December issue of the monthly music magazine, according to YG Entertainment.
His “Gangnam Style” topped three charts for songs ㅡ “Dance/Electronic Streaming Song,” “Rap Streaming Song” and “World Digital Song,” the company said.
Psy, meanwhile, is scheduled to hold concerts in Seoul on Dec. 20-22 and Dec. 24. Sources say he may release a new song during the concert.
