Korean American National Sports Festival in DC to draw 3,000
By The Korea Times Los Angeles staff
The Korea Sports Association of USA will open its 18th Korean American National Sports Festival in Washington, D.C., June 19 to 21.
The festival is expected to attract about 3,000 athletes from 20 states to compete in 20 sports, including soccer, baseball, ping-pong and tennis.
It will have its opening ceremony at Dulles Expo Center, its closing ceremony at Bready Park and its competitions inside Herndon Community Center.
Its Los Angeles chapter said Thursday it would send 100 athletes and staff to the festival. The goal is to bring home five gold medals, the branch said.
“This is the first time Los Angeles is sending 100 people to participate in the festival,” said L.A. chapter leaders Kim Ki-hyung and Jeon Hee-taek. “We’re hoping to place at least third overall this year and will work hard to do so.”
