Hank Conger heating up? Hammers 4th homer of the year

So if you haven’t heard already, the St. Louis Cardinals are being investigated by the FBI for allegedly hacking and trying to steal information from the Houston Astros according to the New York Times.

If it turns out that the league’s best team is actually peeking into the Houston Astros’ player database, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they checked reports on catcher Hank Conger.

The 27-year-old Korean American belted his fourth home run of the year on Tuesday during his team’s 8-5 win at home over the Colorado Rockies.

That makes it three in a row for the Astros as they prepare for a grueling 8-game road trip.

Conger drilled the solo shot to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning off of right handed reliever Brooks Brown.

He managed to do some damage before that in the bottom of the third when he tied the game up after driving in Jose Altuve after a line drive single to left field.

He went 2-for-4 in the game with 2 RBIs while scoring two runs.

Just two days prior, Conger racked up three RBIs in another Astros win.

Even though he’s still not starting very often, Astros Manager A.J. Hinch has given Conger the freedom to hit from both sides of the plate — something Mike Scioscia never did during Conger’s many years with the Los Angeles Angels.

Conger hit his RBI single right handed in Tuesday’s game and hit his home run from the left side. When you start to dig a little deeper into his splits, there’s no reason to stick Conger in a platoon system.

The Astros are slated to play the Angels in a three-game series beginning on June 22 so as long as Conger gets some playing time, he may be able to show his former team what they’ve been missing.

Conger lifted his season average to .222 after Tuesday’s game.
