S. Korea extends travel bans on 6 countries

SEOUL, July 15 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s foreign ministry said Wednesday it has decided to extend its travel restrictions on six countries for another six-month period, citing high safety risks.

Following the move, South Korea will maintain entry restrictions on Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria, Yemen and Libya.

The order will be effective through Jan. 31, 2016 for Iraq, Syria, and Yemen and through Feb. 2, 2016 for Libya. South Koreans will also be not allowed to travel to Afghanistan and Somalia through Feb. 6 next year.

“The political instabilities, poor security and threats of terrorism are expected to continue for the time being in the six countries,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Under the regulations, any travelers who wish to visit the six countries must receive permission from the government.
