Major League Baseball (MLB) deemed Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Kang Jung-ho as the National League Rookie of the Month for July on Monday.
During that span he batted .379 with three home runs and nine RBIs. With shortstop Jordy Mercer and third baseman Josh Harrison on the disabled list, Kang played a critical role in maintaining the momentum of the team as they make a mid-season push for a playoff spot.
The Pirates have gone 14-9 since the South Korean started games regularly after Harrison went out with a thumb injury.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will play the Chicago Cubs on Monday at home in PNC Park.
