LA K-Town Madang Plaza becomes Tuesday traffic nightmare
By The Korea Times Los Angeles staff
Los Angeles Koreatown’s hottest spot every Tuesday has become the unlikely — and what many are calling infuriatingly crowded — Madang Plaza.
Hives of cars flood onto Manhattan Place from 6th Street and Wilshire Boulevard each week, each driver behind the wheel eager to buy half-priced movie tickets at CGV Plaza.
“I had a lunch date at Madang Plaza last Tuesday, and because of the overcrowding in the parking lot, it took me forever to get out,” said a Koreatown resident, Choi.
“I went to Madang to see a movie during the weekend and ended up wasting 30 minutes in the parking lot without being able to find a spot,” said Kim, a West Los Angeles resident. “I think they should start considering taking measures.”
Madang Plaza, which houses the only CGV Cinemas — a South Korean movie theater — in the city, is also home to H-Mart, a supermarket, and several high-traffic stores and restaurants, among them Daiso, Aladdin, and a fitness center.
CGV offers $6 movie tickets all day Tuesday in its three-theater space, with offerings including both Hollywood and South Korean releases.
Last week, CJ E&M America announced it would open a CGV Cinemas in Buena Park, Orange County, inside a multiplex currently under construction.
