5 more Koreans earn PGA Tour card for next season
By Brian Han
Five golfers of Korean heritage received their PGA Tour cards for the 2015-2016 season by finishing in the Web.com Tour’s top-25 in earnings.
The results were finalized on Sunday after the final event of the season, the WinCo Foods Portland Open in North Plains, Ore.
Korean American Michael Kim, a former University of California, Berkeley golfer was one of the players who could breathe a sigh of relief after the tournament. The 22-year-old played for the Bears in their memorable 2012-2013 season when the team was ranked No. 1 across all national polls, although the team did eventually end up losing to the University of Illinois at the NCAA Championship.
Other players included South Koreans Kim Si-woo, 20, D.H. Lee , 28, Sung Kang, 28, and another Korean American Lucas Lee, 28.
D.H. Lee actually earned his card in 2012, but after a lackluster 2014 season, his performance forced him to give up his card like many do. It only took one year on the Web.com year for him to return back to form. He finished 15th on the money list.
The highest ranked Korean golfer on the list was Kim Si-woo at No. 10.
