Singer Insooni prepares to enter bodybuilding competition
South Korean pop icon Insooni, 58, is preparing for a challenge that may be worlds away from topping music charts: bodybuilding.
According to agency Humap Contents Friday, Insooni will enter the 2015 NABBA WWF Korea Championship at the Coex Mall in Gangnam District this weekend.
The singer will participate in two categories, women sports models and performance. She’s been preparing for three months with a trainer who has worked with actor Kwon Sang-woo.
“Insooni’s latest song that she released in July, ‘Piano,’ is about youth, passion and challenges,” said a Humap representative. “As she worked on the song, she thought about what would be a challenge to herself and chose to try bodybuilding.”
“She feels, as someone who’s almost 60, that just entering the competition itself is a meaningful challenge,” the representative said.
Insooni made her debut in 1978 as a member of the girl group Hee Sisters.
