DC-area Korean American students receive scholarships
By The Korea Times Washington, D.C. staff
Sixty-six East Coast Korean American students received a total of $139,000 in scholarship money Saturday.
The Korean American Scholarship Foundation’s eastern chapter held the ceremony inside Sheraton Tysons Hotel near Washington, D.C.
Students included those in high school, college, masters programs and descendants of Korean War veterans.
Henry Choi, president of the eastern chapter, said the students were the hope of America and of the Korean American community.
The foundation was started in 1969 in Washington, D.C., before chapters spread to seven other regions. In Los Angeles, the western branch of the foundation awarded 50 college students with a total of $100,000 in scholarship money Sunday. KASF has given approximately $5 million to 5,000 students since.
It plans to begin a fundraising campaign with a goal of delivering an additional $5 million to students by 2020.
