SF Asian Art Museum to bring Korean lacquerware as part of golden anniversary
September 30, 2015
By The Korea Times San Francisco staff
A Korean art piece — lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl — will be on display next year as a part of the San Francisco Asian Art Museum’s 50th anniversary.
AAM will also bring a diversity of pieces from China, Japan, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Museum visitors will see the Korean lacquerware, the first of its kind brought to AAM, from April 29 to Oct. 23 next year.
Jay Xu, museum director, said AAM has taken on the role of spreading and introducing Asian art and culture not just to the San Francisco area but to the world.
The museum remains the only U.S. institution to maintain a curator, Kim Hyun-jung, and department solely for Korean art.
