Keep an eye on PGA Tour rookie Michael Kim
By Brian Han
If you’re a true golf fan, South Korea-born American Michael Kim should very much be on your radar as the 2015-16 PGA Tour season kicks off this week at the Frys.com Open.
At only 22-years-old the rookie doesn’t have much experience under his belt, but he’s loaded with talent.
Need proof?
In just his first event with his Tour card, he’s in the top-10 heading into the weekend. His stats show that he’s hitting the ball further, straighter and putting better than the field averages.
Kim and his family moved to the U.S. about 15 years ago and in just a few months his father introduced him to the game of golf.
He ended up going to the University of California, Berkeley to play on the school’s team, and was crowned the best collegiate player in the nation after receiving the 2013 Haskins Award.
Golf.com and the PGA also deemed him as one of the top rookies heading into the season.
His one weakness? He needs to stay motivated and cultivate his talent rather than rest on it.
“Probably not get so lazy,” he told PGATour.com when asked about what he could improve. “I like to sleep a lot and I take a lot of naps, and I procrastinate a little too much sometimes. So I’m trying to get on top of things a little faster.”
