‘The Martian’ finds explosive popularity in S. Korea

Outside of the U.S., “The Martian” is finding the most explosive box office success in South Korea.

The film has made over $28.6 million in 20 days according to Box Office Mojo while becoming the country’s fastest foreign release to sell four million tickets this year over “Kingsman: The Secret Service.”

The U.K. has produced $26.8 million for the film. It holds the second-highest total in foreign box office revenue for the sci-fi epic.

The movie is based on a novel by American author Andy Weir and follows an astronaut (Matt Damon) who becomes stranded on Mars while forced to survive on meager resources.

The film has so far made $385.9 million worldwide.
