Midfielder Lee Chung-yong reinjures foot, nat’l team status murky
SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) — Crystal Palace midfielder Lee Chung-yong has apparently reinjured his right foot in a recent practice match, leaving his national team status murky for upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The Premier League team reported Tuesday, local time, that Lee limped off the field during the first half of the match against the under-21 Bristol City side. The team’s website said Lee appeared to have suffered an ankle injury.
Lee missed South Korea’s World Cup qualifier against Kuwait and a friendly against Jamaica last month with a right ankle injury. On Monday, he was selected to coach Uli Stielike’s 23-man roster for World Cup qualifiers against Myanmar and Laos set for later this month.
In addition to his 23 players, Stielike named five players to the alternative list in case of injuries.
