Shin Seung-hoon is back! Hundreds line up to buy singer’s comeback album
SEOUL (Yonhap) — Hundreds of people formed lines outside a CD store in Seoul to get singer Shin Seung-hun’s comeback album in South Korea, where most music sales have occurred online in recent years, his management agency said Friday.
Some 500 people waited in lines outside a HOTTRACKS CD store in central Seoul to buy the ballad legend’s first album in nine years and 11th career album titled “I am… & I am,” which came out Thursday, Dorothy Music said.
All albums in stock, including 200 signed ones, were sold out in a matter of hours, and the store is in the process of restocking, the agency said.
“Female fans who used to admire him in their adolescence and even hidden male fans lined up,” the agency said in a statement. “That his album drew much attention offline in today’s fast-changing music market is remarkable.”
Shin, known for his uniquely androgynous, soulful voice, represented Korean pop music in the 1990s.
Contrary to its offline success, however, the album came up short against younger artists’ in the digital market.
Shin will hold three concerts on the Kyung Hee University campus in Seoul from Dec. 4-6.
