Minjee Lee edges out lead in 2nd round of Lorena Ochoa Invitational
By Brian Han
Korean Australian Minjee Lee looked unstoppable early on after she birdied four of the first six holes on Friday at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.
She ended up faltering a bit resulting in a 3-under 66 giving her a solo lead with a 6-under total. Even though she was able to hit nearly every single green despite slightly colder and windier conditions than yesterday, her putter let her down on a few occasions.
The 19-year-old missed a few short putts left, which kept her from pulling even further away from a congested leaderboard. In fact, she totaled 33 putts on the day, which was the highest among any of the players in the top-30.
The day’s lowest rounds go to rookie Kim Sei-young and defending champion Christina Kim, who both shot a 6-under 66 to tie for second along with world No. 2 Park Inbee and Angela Stanford.
Kim Sei-young already has three LPGA victories so far in her debut year and clinched the Rookie of the Year award before the season finished.
